EU’s exploding-iPhone investigation heats up

‘m on my third iPhone (having upgraded twice), and I’ve also owned an iPod Touch. I loved them all dearly, largely because they never exploded into flames, burning me and my family alive. Just saying.

But it seems that other people might not have been so lucky. Numerous reports say the European Commission is now looking into accounts of exploding iPhones and iPod Touches–and Apple is cooperating, according to The New York Times.

Gmail push on iPhone? Meet GPush

The arrival of push notification in Apple’s 3.0 iPhone software whipped up excitement, though its real-world application still left users wanting more. On Monday, Tiverias Apps released GPush (iTunes link), a small (0.3MB), ninety nine cent application that fills in a gap with push notification for your Gmail account.

GPush alerts you to incoming Gmail messages with a red icon badge, a chime, and a semi-transparent alert window that reads the sender’s name and the subject line. (You can change these in the Notification settings.) The application interface itself does little, apart from collecting your login information once, and manually reregistering your credentials. All the rest works behind the scenes.

Report: Google Voice to be retooled as Web app for iPhone

Even though Apple prevented it from listing Google Voice on the iPhone App Store, Google is planning on retooling the application as a Web-based app, according to The New York Times.

Apple’s iDisk finally comes to the iPod, iPhone

After more than a month of waiting, Apple has finally brought its MobileMe iDisk application (app store link) to iPod and iPhone users. Originally announced during Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference in early July, the free iDisk app offers users of Apple’s MobileMe service a way to access files they, or their MobileMe contacts have stored on Apple’s servers.
